During your in-person and telepractice sessions you will be coaching a family on how to use expansions using the teach-model-coach-review approach.

Why Expansions? 

• Using expansions confirms to the child that you heard him/her and that what they had to say was worth repeating. This encourages the child to say it again (either immediately or later.) 

• Expanding and extending the child’s utterances increases the likelihood that he will spontaneously imitate your sentence or at least part of it (Scanlon, 2018).
